Delegation of International Financial Law Experts Pays a Visit to SFC

On October 24, a delegation of international financial law experts attending the International Forum on Financial Justice in Shanghai visited the Shanghai Financial Court (SFC) for an “up-close and immersive” experience of China’s achievements in financial judicial practice, aiming to build a bridge for in-depth dialogue between Chinese and international financiallaw communities. The delegation included Sir William Blair, President of the Regulatory Tribunal of the Qatar International Court, former Judge of the High Court of England and Wales and former President of the London Commercial Court; Nicholas Calcina Howson, Professor at the University of Michigan Law School; Masayuki Tamaruya, Professor at the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, University of Tokyo; and Robin Huang, Professor at the Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. They were accompanied by the SFC PresidentZhao Hong. President Zhao extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests and, during the discussion, gave an overview of the Courts structure and jurisdiction, together with its experience of building a “specialized, internationalized, and digital” world-class financial court. Sir William Blair expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit the SFC and shared insights into the practices of British courts in ascertaining foreign laws. He described the visit as informative and productive, fostering the exchange of perspectives and ideas. He also expressed the hope that the SFC would disseminate more trial practices and experiences to the international financial law community, contributing the wisdom of Chinese judges to global financial governance.The discussion was chaired by Gu Quan, Vice President of the SFC, and Fu Wang, Standing Member of the SFC Adjudication Committee, presented the court’s practices in handling foreign-related cases. The participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as the coordination between administrative and civil proceedings in the securities sector, mutual learning between statutory law and case law, and lawyer disciplinary systems. President Zhao presented the guests with bilingual copies of A Collection of Typical Cases from Shanghai Financial Court.Prior to the discussion, the delegation toured the Litigation Service Center and Cultural Exhibition Hall of the SFC. They also observed a court hearing in a foreign-related courtroom regarding an application to set aside an arbitral award, experiencing firsthand the court’s digital judicial achievements, including the intelligent interpretation system for court hearings, the smartcase-filing system, and the Securities Investor Protection Chamber. Shan Suhua, Vice President of the SFC, together with heads of relevant departments and some judges, participated in the discussion.During the International Forum on Financial Justice, President Zhao also met with Sir William Blair.
